I want to encourage us to share about what works in terms of marketing our work as a highly sensitive professional. Many of us are introverted, which typically means we don't like to SELL. I've found that I've had to come up with less usual ways of marketing to find things that truly work for me, like internet marketing, writing articles, and teaching small classes. I'd love to hear from others about what works best for you, and/or specific questions or ideas you have. ~ Jenna

Hi all,

I love to substitue "offering my services" whenever I encounter the term "marketing," because that's something I can really get behind! What has worked for me incredibly well is to offer a Sample Reading - it lets my prospective clients get a flavor of the work, and I can demonstrate my accuracy. It's time consuming, but I've honed the process down so that it's manageable. I believe in giving away in order to receive - and it sure has worked out that way. The free Sample Readings also help me build my list.

Blessings,
Andrea

Dear Andrea,

Love that substitution.

I currently offer complimentary initial consultations, and used to offer sample coaching sessions as a way to let people know what I do. As I initially began doing readings, I offered several sessions for free. And when I first started coaching, I posted an offering on www.craigslist.org to coach 10 people for free for one month. It was a fabulous way to get started!

Thanks for sharing. Very Happy

Warmly,

Jenna

Greetings everyone,
I cannot say I am the greatest fan of marketing either, but I have found good results by submitting articles for publication on Internet e-zines. Many of these publications do not pay for article submissions, but to make up for this they allow you a byline at the close of your article. This works out to be a winning proposition in three respects: 1.) you build a body of written work thus establishing credibility and expertise in your area of focus or speciality 2.) You can specifically decide to highlight your latest offerings- be it a program, a book you have written or services- in your byline to draw the attention of prospective clients and 3.) it can be a great way to increase traffic to your website ( I almost always include my site URL in my byline if permitted). To me this seems like a rather painless way to get the word out that you are available and ready to serve, while continuing to build your public credibility and confidence in what you have to offer.

I'm currently working my way through the book Attracting perfect customers by Hall and Brogniez and it's amazing, and right up our street cos it's about us deciding who we want to attract rather than trying to fit into what we think we should be/ do etc. And then being 100% the person who would attract them (it makes more sense when you read it!)
And I've just uncovered a big issue for me - being up front about charging. Because what I do is helping people with problems (surprise for a hsp, d'oh!) I find it difficult to draw the line between helping people who are in need and saying you must pay. Especially when it's people I know - where is the line between being a friend and being taken advantage of? And of course a big bit for me is not wanting them to feel awkward about not paying me!! I so love being HSP, lol
And I know that once I resolve that then my business will bloom. It's about that law of attraction stuff - if I don't feel I'm worth it why should someone else? Sending out mixed signals is a big block for me. Or rather was....

Nice insights, katkarma, I love it.

I had to make that transition too, and it was really worth it! I don't work one-on-one with friends any more, in part for this reason. If I can include them in group things I'm doing without charging them and I feel totally 100% great about it, then I'll do so. I've learned to check my energy around it as a gauge. It works well.

Warmly,

Jenna
